10:36 pm - Umineko no Naku Koro ni episode 5: End of the golden witch - PART VII
Battler X Beatrice end confirmed.

This is PART VII.

Beatrice struggles to get back on her feet. Any effort is futile against Witch Hunter Dlanor. She apologizes to Kinzo and Battler, knowing that she is at her end.

Kinzo has no regrets though. He is content with Battler becoming the next Master.

For a moment, Beatrice and Battler's eyes meet.
...But that can't be. This Battler is simply a piece in the game that Beatrice looks down upon.
Yet Beatrice somehow has an unexplainable belief that they did gaze at each other.

Battler has wandered away from the ruckus and quietly assessed the situation on his own. He doesn't sympathize with Natsuhi, but the interrogation by Erika and the others is unforgivable.

Erika asks Natsuhi to obediently resign and confess to her crime.

Battler finally speaks up.
If the mystery is third-rate, then the detective is also third-rate.

Erika's face twists into a frown. Is Battler denying her checkmate? Battler does hold the Master's ring, therefore he can represent Kinzo's authority. She asks him to show his reasoning about how Kinzo could've possibly escaped from the room.
It is not cordial banter. Instead, Erika's expression is of unveiled anger for his ruining her happiest moment.

Battler calls for Natsuhi to speak privately with him and do as he says from now.
Kinzo, watching the game, gives a laugh. He already knows that Battler will prove himself worthy of becoming the Master of the house.

The ladies of Eiserne Jungfrau reaffirm that the room is completely sealed and they will shoot Battler down if he tries to escape. Ronove and Gaap are also watching the spectacle.

The reenactment begins.
Battler lies down on the bed, playing Kinzo's role, and Natsuhi approaches the bed.

Natsuhi's report of the day's events bored Kinzo, so he pretended to fall asleep. Seeing that Kinzo is asleep, Natsuhi started checking things around the room. Even though Shannon comes in to clean up everyday, Natsuhi personally checks the tiniest details, like looking for any settled dust or counting the number of sheets left on the roll of toilet paper.

While Natsuhi was in the bathroom, concentrating on counting toilet paper, she could not see the rest of the place. It all became one huge blind spot and the sole observer of the study room had vanished.

Kinzo then got up.
Why?

"Wahahahahaha!! On a mad night like this, there was no accompaniment of wine superior to admiring the night sky in the mad weather!!"

Kinzo could wander around the room without anyone's knowledge.

"Ladies and gentlemen. A noise resounds when the lock of the study room's door is disabled. May it be known that it is impossible to exit through the door without rousing Natsuhi's suspicion."

"Ladies and gentlemen. May I offer to say that it is impossible for Natsuhi to not hear the sound of the door opening while she is in the room."

"Ladies and gentlemen, I shall repeat. It is impossible for Kinzo to enter or exit through the door."

Battler knows that the door is impossible. But how about the window?
It catches Cornelia off-guard. For a moment she breaks form, but then recovers.

"I offer to say it's no good, Ushiromiya Battler...! Ladies and gentlemen, my windows were closed from the inside, and also, Natsuhi would not let Kinzo escape...!!"

"It's not that Aunt Natsuhi let Grandpa escape. ...What if, hiding away from Aunt Natsuhi, Grandpa slipped out on his own?!"

Why would Kinzo let himself out the window?!

"On this mad night, nothing but jumping out into the rain allowed me to enjoy the wine in full!!!"

..Impossible! This is the third floor!

Haven't you jumped down a stair? Then Kinzo just might be able to jump down three floors.

The red barrier on the windows breaks into pieces.

Battler has pulled back the curtains and opened up a window. The downpour outside has not ceased...

Cornelia reapplies a red barrier to the windows, but it's her last one.

"Ladies and gentlemen, may I humbly offer to say this...!! I Suppose that I admit Kinzo escaped through the window...! If so, then in what manner were the windows that cannot be closed from the outside locked?! The windows were locked from the inside!!"

Both Kinzo and Battler smirk.

"After Grandpa jumped out of the window, Aunt Natsuhi would have noticed a slight draft. So she went up to the windows and noticed that a window had been left open, and in a fluster, she closed and locked it...!!"

"Natsuhi never could have imagined that I would actually slip out through the window!"
"Yeah!! So it was natural for Aunt Natsuhi to think that Grandpa was still asleep in bed!!"

The red barrier on the windows is destroyed again. Cornelia sets up another barrier, but this time it's a blue one, far weaker than the red kind.

"Th-This place is impassable, impassable!! Ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen!! However, this is the third floor...! How do you explain a wingless human escaping through the window...?!! This place is impassable, impassable, let it be knoooooooown!!"

"This is the answeeeeeeeeeeroooooaah!!"

Battler jumps.
Through the window and shattering the blue truth, into the rain.
Regardless of whether Battler survives the fall or not, the locked room is no more.

Time seems to be at a near standstill. To Battler, the raindrops around him are sparkling like tiny gemstones.
Dlanor acknowledges Battler's answer and asks him for the honor of a duel in midair.

"Was the existence of Natsuhi's blind spot within the study room shown beforehand? If it was not shown, then this deduction is not allowed. Rule 8 of Knox. Solving by clues not displayed is prohibited..!!"

"When we entered the study room, its structure was clearly apparent. ...Sorry about that, Miss."

A tiny smile.
Dlanor finally shows a sliver of emotion.
Battler and Dlanor continue to trade blows in red and blue.

"You may even call Kinzo's study room a small villa built inside the mansion"

"Study room. Library. Bedroom. Bathing area and washroom. It is made of multiple rooms"

And they were able to provide a blind spot that no ordinary room can...

Thud. Thud!!
Battler lands in the courtyard.
Dlanor falls into the courtyard.

Back in the study room, Beatrice has been watching Battler.
Battler yells to Beatrice for her to jump as well.
Kinzo is satisfied with Battler and vanishes in a flock of golden butterflies.

The locked room is unlocked, and the power denying magick disperses.

Beatrice hurries to the window. Erika makes a last-minute lunge at Beatrice, but she simply passes through the ghost-like visage and crashes to the floor face-first.

...Witches cannot be caught by humans.
For she who is without love, there is no reason for her to be able to touch them.

Erika commands the Siestas and Eiserne Jungfrau to fire at Battler, but they cannot, due to the barriers set up.
As the realization of defeat dawns upon Erika, she begins screaming while furiously tearing at her hair.

Beatrice jumps from the window and Battler catches her as if she is an angel. She lands in his embrace.

Doesn't that sound like a pretty picture out of a fairytale.

Beatrice is stunned, then quickly tries to regain her posture. For once, through awkward laughter, she praises him.

Erika looks down from the window, grinding her teeth and still tearing her hair out, screaming about how it's all impossible.
Battler yells up at Erika. The mystery of the Golden Witch is for between him and Beatrice and no one else.
"I'm not gonna let you have the mystery of the Golden Witch. I'll solve it. ...It's a mystery between us two. Right, Beat?"
"Uh, ...um...! My mystery is for yo, ...yo..."
"Yo?"
"My mystery is for ...yo, ...you, ...you alone...!! Ushiromiya Battler! I shall not let anyone else solve it...!!"
"Heheh, you're talking nonsense...!!"

With Beatrice still in his arms, Battler starts spinning in place as if dancing with her.

If Battler suffered heavy injuries from jumping from the third floor, then perhaps Erika might still have had some ground. She could've claimed that an old man like Kinzo would never land safely.

...But Battle is in the courtyard, looking up at Erika with the mark of a victor.

Erika makes a final attempt to argue for her deduction, but all of the Ushiromiyas and servants are convinced of Battler's deduction. They agree that Kinzo is a man of many talents, and jumping from third floor is plausible for him.
Ah, what kind of a person is Kinzo, if he can do that...?

Back in the courtyard, Beatrice offhandedly remarks that if it were Kinzo in his younger days, he would've jumped from the window with her in his arms.
Battler promises that he will do so the next chance he gets.

Probably getting too embarrassed at this point to stick around, Beatrice crumbles away into a flock of golden butterflies and vanishes in an instant.

The Ushiromiyas can only see Battler standing alone in the courtyard.

Dlanor has picked herself back up in the courtyard. She acknowledges that she lost the duel and waits for Battler to finish her off with the blue truth.

"Ushiromiya Kinzo, behind Aunt Natsuhi's back, escaped from the study room through the window. Without realizing it, Aunt Natsuhi locked the window. By this, Grandpa could escape from the study room without conflicting with Aunt Natsuhi seeing him off to sleep, the receipt sealing the door, and the windows locked from the inside. The possibility of escape in reality is just as I have proven. Therefore, this battle is settled!!"

A giant blue stake, as big as a pillar, speeds toward Dlanor from above. When it's just about to skewer her, it freezes in place, its tip barely touching Dlanor's forehead.
Battler doesn't really intend to kill Dlanor. With a snap of his fingers, the stake disintergrates.

In a sudden rush of relief, Dlanor falls over backwards.

In the meta world, Lambdadelta is really enjoying the chain of events. Erika apologizes to Bernkastel for her failure, but Bernkastel starts laughing, too. Seeing that even her creator is mocking her, Erika has no choice but to endure the humiliation, swearing eternal vengeance upon Battler...

It is now 9:00.
